Ray Shoemaker has already enjoyed a career that is littered with success, thanks to his seemingly uncanny ability to lead healthcare centers and their employees from adversity to success. His method of leadership can at least partially be attributed to his time in the US Army where he rose to the rank of captain and this leadership is something he has not only used throughout his career but is something he aims to instill in others through the authoring of a leadership book and through his latest project as founder or the Rural Healthcare Developers.
Ray Shoemaker’s own rise and development can be clearly mapped within the healthcare industry. Starting out as director of Mental Health within the Tri-Peaks medical center, Ray went on to open up a behavioral health program that within a single month had 22 beds. He later expanded on the initial geri-psych unit by adding Adult Chemical Dependency, Adolescent Chemical Dependency, and General Psychiatry Unit wards. During his time with the medical center, revenue almost trebled from $23m to an impressive $64m.
His successes in leadership have won Ray Shoemaker many admirers and much acclaim, including the title or Turnaround Kind bestowed by the Memphis Business Journal and through the awarding of the 2006 Up and Comers award from the Modern Healthcare magazine. The Rural Healthcare Developers, Ray’s latest project, is not only designed to assist up and coming healthcare leaders but is also designed to ensure that everybody, regardless of their geographic location, has access to adequate healthcare facilities.
